Spice up your cooking with essential oils

This month we are sharing a blog from Nancy Sanderson containing several yummy recipes for holiday dishes using Young Living essential oils. I can’t wait to try some of these! Happy Thanksgiving!!

Spice up your cooking with essential oils
by nancy sanderson

Think essential oils are just for aromatic or topical purposes? Think again! With Young Living’s Vitality™ essential oil line,* you can go from home cook to culinary artist with easy, elevated dishes! Create mouth-watering recipes that’ll have your family and guests coming back for seconds!
Tips to get started
A small amount of essential oil can make a huge impact on flavor in any dish. Keep in mind the following tips when using essential oils in your recipes:
  • Essential oils can be great substitutes for fresh herbs, citrus zest and juice, and spices such as oregano, lime juice, or ground clove.
  • Essential oils are potent. We recommend using only 1-2 drops at first, or even the toothpick method when cooking with essential oils: Stick a toothpick through the oil dropper to absorb the oil, then swirl the toothpick through wet ingredients. Give it a taste and gradually add more flavor to your liking.
  • Knowledge is key to a successful recipe. Always read the essential oil label before creating your tasty dishes.
Cook smart in the kitchen
Cooking restaurant-quality dishes can be time-consuming and expensive—but it doesn’t have to be that way! Spend less time in the kitchen and enjoy your flavorful meal using Vitality essential oils and these helpful tips:
  • Replace hard-to-find ingredients with a Vitality oil. For example, instead of buying coriander from the spice section, use Coriander Vitality™ essential oil.
  • Get the most bang for your buck. You need only small amounts of Vitality essential oils in your recipes, so you can recreate or concoct dozens of new dishes from the same bottle!
  • Spend less time cooking and more time savoring every bite. Cut down your prep time, including washing, chopping, and slicing ingredients, and add oils instead.
  • Savor the fresh flavor with each essential oil use. Have you ever made a dish that calls for a single sprig of rosemary, but grocery stores only sell fresh herbs in bulk? Dried herbs and spices quickly go stale, while Vitality oils retain their powerful flavor.
10 simple ways to use Vitality oils
Ditch the hours spent Pinterest-ing eventual recipe fails and go with these delicious dishes. These vibrant, flavorful recipes will leave your taste buds tingling!
  1. Turn lemonade from a summer staple to a gourmet beverage by adding Lavender Vitality™ to your ice-cold pitcher.
  2. Start your day the healthy way with a few drops of JuvaCleanse® Vitality™ in your green smoothie.
  3. Feeling French cuisine under a moonlit night? Experiment with meat marinades using Tarragon Vitality™.
  4. Cozy up by the fire with a cup of hot cocoa flavored with a hint of Nutmeg Vitality™ or Cinnamon Bark Vitality™. For a relaxing evening, try our Lavender hot chocolate recipe.

Where to apply essential oils on your body
Nancy Sanderson, sister of Young Living founder, Gary Young, recently shared this YL blog post. It's great information for getting the most out of your oils:

Anytime you apply, rub, or massage essential oils into your skin, your experience starts with sensory receptors. These receptor cells are all over your body, and they do some pretty powerful stuff. Let’s talk about what these human body receptors are and why they’re so amazing!

What is a receptor, and how does it work?

Receptors are protein molecules that have binding sites on them for different types of molecules. When an external molecule finds a binding site it fits in, it communicates with your brain through electrical signals. These signals can go to your muscles, organs, or—in the case of your olfactory receptors—the amygdala, which is involved in the emotions you experience.
Some familiar receptors are your taste buds. When you eat, the food or drink interacts with saliva, and molecules bind to the taste receptors in your mouth. These receptors come in contact with nerve cells, which communicate a particular flavor to your brain.
Another example of receptors in action is Cool Azul™ Pain Relief Cream. When you apply it to your skin, it triggers receptors and sends cooling signals to the brain. That’s why you can feel the tingling sensation all over your skin! Learn more about how this over-the-counter cream works in our video “The Science Behind Young Living’s Cool Azul Pain Relief Cream.”
Your body has these amazing receptors all over, so there are plenty of places you can apply essential oils. Check out our handy infographic below to see where you can get started!

DIY Bath Crayons and Back-to-School Favorites

DIY Bath Crayons and Back-to-School Favorites

I enjoy reading Young Living’s monthly newsletter, The Essential Edge, that comes with my monthly order. It includes all kinds of interesting information such as updates on their charity projects, new products, food recipes and more.

This month there was an article about DIY Bath Crayons! You can make these at home with a few simple products and no messy clean-up. What a good idea to get your kids looking forward to their bath! Click here for the instructions.

Speaking of kids, what are your favorite Young Living essential oils and products for back-to-school? Do you have an oil or oils that you faithfully use every day? Thieves and Purification are two that come to mind when I think of warding off germs. The KidScents oils (like GeneYus for focus and concentration and SleepyIze for that all-important restful night's sleep) aim to keep kids at the top of their game. Have you tried MightyVites or MightyPro for support from the inside out? Share your tips and tricks for back-to-school on my Facebook page!

Dr. D. Gary Young's Great Day Protocol

Originally published by me in August 2012, I happened to run across this blog again this past week. It's a terrific tribute to Gary Young and a great way to start your day. Enjoy!

Dr. D. Gary Young's Great Day Protocol

I have seen Dr. Gary Young at several Young Living conventions, and I once took a Raindrop Technique class that he conducted. I have used his reference books and materials extensively for treating my clients and myself. You cannot help but admire this man when you feel his energy and excitement about essential oils. He has dedicated his life to researching and providing the purest essential oils available. That is why Young Living is the world leader, with farms and distribution centers all over the world. This month I would like to share his "Great Day Protocol."
Start each day with Gary's simple routine—and then discover how happy and confident you feel!

  1. Place one drop of Valor on the inside of your left wrist. Hold the inside of your right wrist to your left wrist for a few minutes. This step balances the body.
  2. Apply a drop of Harmony to your solar plexus (the area just above your belly button) to calm your mind and promote positive feelings.
  3. Apply one drop of Joy to the area above your heart. This step helps bring happiness to your mind and body.
  4. Place a single drop of White Angelica in the palm of your hand and rub your hands together. Lightly brush both hands over your head, face, shoulders, chest, and down the rest of your body as though applying an angelic shield.
Then have a wonderful day!!
